The Role
Europe’s electricity grids are under increasing strain due to the rapid electrification of heating, transportation, and industrial processes, combined with the accelerated deployment of renewable energy sources. Grid congestion occurs when the electricity network lacks sufficient capacity to transmit power where and when it is needed. This issue is already impacting businesses and real estate development across Europe. Mapletree is seeking a motivated intern or working student to support our efforts in assessing and mitigating grid congestion risks across our European property portfolio.
The intern will proactively assess grid congestion risk across Mapletree’s European properties and contribute to strategic decision-making in energy infrastructure planning, sustainability, and tenant satisfaction.
Job Responsibilities
- Assisting with gathering data on remaining lease terms per building.
 - Assisting with assessing current electrical capacity vs. contracted limits.
 - Assisting with identifying properties with forecasted increases in electricity demand (e.g., EV chargers, heat pumps).
 - Research local grid congestion indicators and trends.
 - Assisting with developing a risk matrix to score properties based on exposure to grid congestion.
 - Assisting with analysing potential delays in grid connection upgrades and their impact on operations.
 - Assisting with proposing mitigation strategies such as load management, on-site generation, battery storage, and microgrid feasibility.
 - Assisting with creating a portfolio-wide risk map highlighting high-risk properties.
 - Present findings and recommendations to Asset Management and Property Management teams.

Job Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
 - An interest in real estate, energy management, and sustainability.
 - Strong analytical and research skills.
 - Proficiency in Excel; familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) is a plus.
 - Basic understanding of energy infrastructure and grid systems.
 - Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
 - Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
 - Familiarity with European energy regulations or grid operators is a plus.
