The Role

You will report to the Director, Legal and Group Chief Corporate Officer and work with the rest of the US Legal team to be a key partner in executing the strategy of Mapletree in the United States.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Understand Mapletree’s strategic objectives as an owner, developer and investor of real estate, and provide pragmatic advice and solutions to internal clients on a wide range of real estate matters
  • Provide asset management and property management support from a legal and compliance perspective for all the regional offices in the United States 
  • Draft and review operational and transaction agreements, including service contracts, leases and other tenant-related documents, construction contracts, purchase agreements and property management-related documents
  • Oversee external counsel on various matters, including litigation matters and liaise with Insurance team on liability claims
  • Ensure that all transactional and operational activities are carried out in accordance with applicable state and federal legislation and regulations
  • Keep Senior Management apprised on all relevant changes in legislative and regulatory requirements affecting Mapletree’s business

 

Job Requirements

  • Possess a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited US law school
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of post-law school experience in a law firm or in-house, with a strong emphasis on transactional real estate, particularly in one or more of the following asset classes: industrial, commercial/office, data center and lodging (student accommodations, multi-family)
  • Commitment to being part of a fast-paced working environment with a dynamic and growing team in the United States with the flexibility to adapt to new processes
  • Familiarity with applicable federal and state laws, particularly as they relate to real estate matters
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as a high level of integrity
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with internal clients at all levels
  • Experience with complex real estate transactions and fund structures and/or prior litigation or litigation and insurance claim management experience would be an advantage
