The Role

As a key partner to the business teams in Australia, you will work closely with the Group General Counsel in the Headquarters office based in Singapore to drive Mapletree's strategy in Australia. You will have to understand the Group’s strategic objectives and thereby provide pragmatic advice and solutions to internal clients on the full spectrum of corporate and commercial matters. You will also cover the legal and compliance matters for Sydney office. You will advise the Management team on matters including reviewing transaction agreements and ensuring that all transactional and operation activities are carried out in accordance with state and federal legislations and regulations. You will work closely with the Group General Counsel on key documents and also keep Management up-to-date with relevant changes in legislative and regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Understand the Group’s strategic objectives as an owner, developer and investor of real estate, and provide pragmatic advice and solutions to internal clients on a wide range of real estate matters.
  • Provide asset management and property management support in the legal and compliance matters for the Group.
  • Involved in drafting, reviewing and negotiating transaction agreements, including leases, purchase and procurement agreements, property management-related documents, construction and consultancy contracts, and ensure that all transactional and operation activities are carried out in accordance with applicable state and federal legislation and regulations.
  • Keep Management up-to-date with relevant changes in legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop legal procedures, practices and systems to minimise corporate risks while maintaining a competitive business environment.

Job Requirements

You should possess a recognized Degree in Law with at least 8 years of post-qualification experience in the relevant areas and be committed to being part of a dynamic and growing team in Australia. You must be familiar with the Australian federal and state laws including M&A, joint ventures, and real estate matters. To succeed in this role, you should have strong transactional and management skills as well as a high level of integrity. You should also possess intuitive communication and good interpersonal skills. Exposure to complex real estate transactions or fund structures would be an advantage.
